Schismatoglottis ‘Silver Moon’

A rare tropical aroid prized for its extraordinary silvery foliage, with broad leaves displaying a luminous metallic sheen and contrasting deeper green tones. Members of the genus are native primarily to the humid tropical forests of Southeast Asia, with an especially rich diversity found on Borneo. Its compact, clumping growth habit and unusually reflective foliage make it particularly desirable among collectors of uncommon aroids. The silvery leaves become especially striking in bright, filtered light, giving the plant an almost moonlit appearance. Its manageable size makes it an excellent choice for indoor collections, terrariums, greenhouse displays, and other warm, humid environments.

🌞 Light

Provide bright, indirect light. Moderate indirect light is also tolerated, but brighter filtered light helps maintain strong growth and attractive coloration. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

💧 Watering

Water thoroughly when the upper inch of soil begins to dry. Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist without allowing it to become saturated. This tropical aroid appreciates consistent moisture but is susceptible to root rot when kept excessively wet.

🕳️ Soil

Use a loose, airy, well-draining aroid mixture that retains some moisture. A combination of quality potting soil, perlite, and fine orchid bark provides a good balance of moisture retention, drainage, and airflow around the roots.

🧪 Fertilizing

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce fertilizing during fall and winter when growth slows.

🪴 Repotting

Repot during spring or early summer when the roots begin crowding the container. Choose a pot only one size larger with adequate drainage. Avoid unnecessarily disturbing the roots during repotting.
