Delosperma echinatum ‘Pickle Plant’
One of the most charming and unusual succulents in cultivation. Native to South Africa, this compact trailing species is covered in soft, bristle-like hairs that give its plump green leaves the appearance of tiny pickles. Despite its spiky look, the plant is pleasant to touch and adds wonderful texture to succulent collections, windowsills, and hanging planters. During the growing season it may produce cheerful daisy-like flowers, creating a beautiful contrast against its quirky foliage. Its compact size and easy-going nature make it a favorite among both beginner and experienced succulent collectors.
🌞 Light
Provide bright light with several hours of direct sun each day. A sunny windowsill or bright outdoor location helps maintain compact growth.
💧 Watering
Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess moisture drain away. Reduce watering significantly during cooler months.
🕳️ Soil
Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with pumice, perlite, or coarse sand for excellent drainage.
🧪 Fertilizing
Feed lightly once a month during spring and summer with a diluted cactus fertilizer. Avoid excessive fertilization.
🪴 Repotting
Repot every 2 to 3 years or when the plant becomes crowded. Choose containers with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture buildup.
