Native to Brazil, Dancing Bones Cactus is a quirky epiphytic cactus loved for its branching, bottle shaped segments that give it a sculptural look unlike desert cacti. It belongs to a group of tropical forest cacti that naturally grow with more shade and humidity than most people expect from a cactus. When happy, it can reward you with small yellow to orange flowers, adding even more charm to its playful silhouette. 

🌞 Light

Bright indirect light is ideal. It can handle a little gentle morning sun, but harsh afternoon sun can scorch the stems. This is a jungle cactus, so think filtered light rather than full blazing desert exposure.

💧 Watering

Water when the top portion of the mix has dried out. Do not keep it bone dry for long stretches like a desert cactus. It appreciates a bit more regular moisture, especially during active growth, but soggy soil can quickly lead to trouble.

🕳️ Soil

Use a very airy, fast draining mix. A chunky cactus blend improved with orchid bark, perlite, or pumice works very well. Good drainage is essential, but the mix should still hold a little moisture between waterings.

🧪 Fertilizing

Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength. Monthly feeding during the growing season is usually plenty.

🪴 Repotting

Repot when the plant becomes rootbound or the soil has broken down, usually every 2 to 3 years. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one, since too much extra soil can stay wet too long.
