Anthurium magnificum
Anthurium magnificum lives up to its name with enormous, velvety leaves and striking pale veins that stand out against deep green foliage. Native to Colombia, this tropical aroid develops broad, heart shaped leaves that become increasingly impressive as the plant matures. The soft surface gives the foliage a rich, luxurious appearance, making it a beautiful centerpiece for a plant collection. Its distinctive angular, four sided leaf stalks help distinguish it from similar velvet Anthuriums. Although it produces flowers, the dramatic foliage is the main attraction. Warmth, consistent moisture, and generous humidity help it develop its fullest potential.
☀️ Light
Provide bright, indirect light or gently filtered sunlight. Avoid intense direct sun, which can scorch the velvety leaves.
💧 Water
Water when the top inch of the potting mix begins to dry, keeping the root zone lightly moist without becoming soggy. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain completely.
🌱 Soil
Use a loose, airy aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite or pumice, and moisture retaining potting soil. The mix should hold some moisture while allowing plenty of oxygen around the roots.
🌡️ Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F. Protect from frost, cold drafts, and prolonged temperatures below 60°F.
💨 Humidity
Prefers humidity around 60% to 80%, paired with good airflow. It can adapt to moderately lower humidity, but very dry conditions may contribute to crispy leaf edges.
🪴 Fertilizer
Feed monthly during active growth with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid overfeeding, and occasionally flush the potting mix to reduce salt buildup.
