Tillandsia usneoides 'Spanish Moss'
Native throughout the southeastern United States, Central America, and parts of South America, this fascinating epiphyte grows without soil and drapes gracefully from tree branches in long silvery strands. Despite its common name, it is neither a true moss nor native to Spain. Spanish Moss absorbs moisture and nutrients directly through specialized scales on its surface, making it an incredibly unique and easy to display plant. Whether suspended from a branch, incorporated into a terrarium, or used to create a natural tropical atmosphere, it brings a distinctive wild beauty to any collection.
🌞 Light
Bright indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate some gentle morning sun but should be protected from intense afternoon sunlight.
💧 Watering
Mist thoroughly several times per week, or soak for 15 to 30 minutes when conditions are especially warm and dry. Good air circulation is important so the plant can dry after watering.
🕳️ Soil
No soil is needed. Spanish Moss is an epiphyte that grows attached to branches, driftwood, or other supports.
🧪 Fertilizing
Feed monthly during active growth with a bromeliad or air plant fertilizer diluted according to directions.
🪴 Repotting
Repotting is not necessary. Simply divide or reposition strands as they grow longer.
🐾 Toxicity
Non Toxic.
