Philodendron tortum

Philodendron tortum is a true conversation piece, known for its incredibly unique foliage that resembles a delicate tropical fern rather than a typical philodendron. Native to the rainforests of Brazil, this plant develops long, narrow, deeply divided leaves that give it a light, airy presence. As it matures and begins to climb, the foliage becomes more dramatic and architectural, making it a favorite among collectors looking for something rare yet surprisingly easy to grow indoors.

Light 🌞
Bright indirect light is ideal. It can handle a bit of soft morning sun, but strong afternoon exposure can damage the thin leaf segments. Good lighting encourages fuller, more compact growth.

Watering 💧
Water when the top layer of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist, but never soggy. Make sure excess water drains freely to avoid root issues.

Soil 🌱
Use a chunky, well draining aroid mix. A blend of potting soil, orchid bark, perlite, and a bit of coco coir or moss works great to keep roots healthy and aerated.

Fertilizing 🌿
Feed once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Cut back during cooler months when growth naturally slows.

Repotting 🪴
Repot when roots begin to outgrow the container or circle the pot. Move up just one size at a time. Adding a moss pole or stake will support its natural climbing habit.
