Pilea involucrata ‘Norfolk’

A compact tropical plant cherished for its velvety, deeply textured foliage and fascinating color transformation. New leaves emerge in reddish-pink tones before maturing into metallic silver with contrasting gray-green veins and darker undersides. Native Pilea involucrata grows throughout Central and South America, where it thrives beneath the humid forest canopy. Its compact size, love of humidity, and colorful foliage make it an excellent choice for terrariums, vivariums, desktops, and small indoor spaces. The name Friendship Plant comes from how easily its cuttings can be rooted and shared with friends.

🌞 Light

Provide bright, indirect light or gentle filtered sunlight. Avoid intense direct sun, which can scorch its delicate leaves and fade their metallic coloring.

💧 Watering

Water when the upper half-inch of soil begins to feel dry. Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist without allowing it to become saturated. Higher humidity helps prevent crispy leaf edges.

🕳️ Soil

Use a loose, moisture-retentive mixture with excellent drainage. Indoor potting soil amended with perlite and fine orchid bark works well. Terrarium soil blends are also suitable.

🧪 Fertilizing

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce fertilizing during fall and winter when growth slows.

🪴 Repotting

Repot when roots fill the container, commonly every one to two years. Select a pot one size larger with adequate drainage. Pinching the growing tips encourages a fuller, bushier plant.
