Peperomia polybotrya variegata 'Rain Drop Peperomia'
Rare tropical houseplant prized for its glossy, raindrop shaped leaves decorated with unique green, cream, and yellow variegation. Each fleshy leaf attaches near its center, creating the distinctive dimple that gives Raindrop Peperomia its name. This compact, upright member of the pepper family typically reaches about 12 inches tall and may produce slender greenish white flower spikes when mature. The species originates in wet tropical regions from Colombia through Peru, while this colorful cultivated form brings extra brightness and collector appeal to shelves, desks, and small plant displays.
Light 🌞
Provide bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation. Avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch the lighter portions of the leaves.
Watering 💧
Water thoroughly when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. Allow excess water to drain completely and avoid keeping the soil continuously wet.
Soil 🕳️
Use a loose, well draining houseplant mix amended with perlite and fine orchid bark.
Humidity 💨
Average household humidity is suitable, although moderate humidity between 40 and 60 percent encourages healthier growth.
Fertilizing 🧪
Apply a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength once monthly during spring and summer.
Repotting 🪴
Repot every 1 to 2 years or when the plant becomes rootbound. Choose a container only one size larger and ensure it has drainage holes.
