Hoya wayetii 'Variegata' is a tropical climbing epiphyte admired for its narrow, slightly curved leaves with green margins and creamy centers. New foliage can develop attractive shades of pink or red when exposed to brighter light. The species originates from northern Luzon in the Philippines, where it naturally grows on trees and rocks in humid tropical environments. Mature plants can produce clusters of small waxy flowers. Hoya wayetii is frequently confused with the very similar Hoya kentiana, making a reliable nursery label especially helpful for identification.

🌞 Light

Provide bright indirect light to maintain vibrant variegation and encourage flowering. Gentle morning sun can enhance pink and red coloring. Avoid harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch the pale portions of the leaves.

💧 Watering

Allow at least the top half of the soil to dry before watering thoroughly. The thick leaves store moisture, making the plant sensitive to excessive watering. Never allow the roots to sit in standing water.

🕳️ Soil

Use a chunky, well draining epiphytic mix consisting of orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, and a small amount of quality potting media. Excellent drainage and airflow are essential for healthy roots.

🧪 Fertilizing

Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Reduce fertilizing during cooler months when growth slows.

🪴 Repotting

Repot every 2 to 3 years, or when the potting mix begins to break down. Hoyas generally prefer slightly snug containers. Grow the vines in a hanging basket or provide a trellis for climbing support.
