Hoya obovata ‘Splash’
Hoya obovata ‘Splash’ is loved for its thick, rounded leaves decorated with irregular silver flecks and splashes. The deep green foliage has a substantial, waxy texture, creating a beautiful contrast against the silvery markings. Its long vines can cascade from a hanging basket or wind around a trellis for a fuller upright display. With maturity and sufficient light, it can produce rounded clusters of fragrant, pale pink flowers with darker pink centers. The amount of silver naturally varies from leaf to leaf, giving each plant its own distinctive pattern. Its handsome foliage and forgiving nature make it a rewarding addition to a Hoya collection.
☀️ Light
Provide bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sunlight can encourage growth and flowering, but protect the leaves from intense afternoon sun.
💧 Water
Allow the potting mix to dry most of the way before watering thoroughly. Drain excess water completely, and avoid leaving the roots in soggy soil.
🌱 Soil
Use a light, chunky mix containing orchid bark, perlite or pumice, and potting soil. Choose a pot with drainage holes and avoid an oversized container.
🌡️ Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F. Protect from frost, cold drafts, and prolonged temperatures below 55°F.
💨 Humidity
Average household humidity is usually sufficient, although moderate humidity supports vigorous growth. Provide good airflow around the foliage.
🪴 Fertilizer
Feed monthly during active growth with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Leave old flower spurs intact, as future blooms can develop from the same points.
