A beloved tropical plant known for its luminous lime green vein pattern that glows against deep green leaves. Native to the rainforests of Brazil, this plant belongs to the Marantaceae family, often called “prayer plants.” The nickname comes from its fascinating daily movement. In the evening, the leaves slowly lift upward like hands in prayer, then relax again during the day. This gentle motion makes it one of the most lively and interactive houseplants you can grow indoors. A mature large specimen creates a lush spreading display that brings vibrant rainforest energy into any room.
Light ☀️
Bright indirect light is ideal. It also tolerates moderate light conditions, though the vibrant leaf patterns remain most vivid when placed near a bright window with protection from harsh direct sun.
Watering 💧
Water when the top inch of soil begins to dry. Marantas prefer evenly moist soil and benefit from consistent watering. Avoid letting the soil completely dry out between waterings.
Soil 🌱
Use a well draining potting mix that still retains some moisture. A blend containing potting soil, coco coir, and perlite works well to support healthy roots while maintaining gentle moisture.
Fertilizing 🌿
Feed once a month during spring and summer using a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter when growth naturally slows.
Repotting 🪴
Repot every one to two years or once the roots begin filling the container. Choose a pot slightly larger than the previous one to allow room for continued spreading growth.
Toxicity ⚠️
Non toxic.
