Geogenanthus poeppigii 'Seersucker Plant'
One of the most captivating foliage plants available to collectors, prized for its deeply corrugated leaves that appear almost quilted in texture. Native to the tropical rainforests of Peru and other parts of South America, this unusual species grows along the shaded forest floor where humidity remains high year round. Its broad, glossy leaves display an incredible blend of dark green, blue, and purple tones that can appear almost metallic under the right lighting conditions. Despite its exotic appearance, it remains relatively compact, making it an excellent choice for terrariums, plant cabinets, desktops, and indoor plant collections. The unique texture and iridescent coloration often draw comparisons to luxury fabric, which inspired its common name, Seersucker Plant.
🌞 Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage and fade its beautiful coloration. Medium light is tolerated, though growth may slow.
💧 Watering
Keep the soil lightly moist at all times. Water when the top inch of soil begins to dry. Do not allow the plant to remain soggy or sit in standing water.
🕳️ Soil
Use a rich, well-draining tropical potting mix. A blend containing coco coir, bark, perlite, and compost provides excellent results.
🧪 Fertilizing
Feed monthly during the active growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
🪴 Repotting
Repot every 1 to 2 years or when roots begin filling the container. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one to avoid excess moisture retention.
