Native to tropical regions of West Africa, this beautiful species is prized for its enormous heart-shaped leaves that can reach impressive sizes under the right conditions. Its lush foliage creates an instant tropical atmosphere indoors, giving spaces a bold, architectural presence. Unlike many finicky tropical plants, Ficus umbellata is relatively adaptable and rewards growers with rapid growth and increasingly dramatic foliage as it matures. Whether grown as a striking indoor specimen or incorporated into a tropical plant collection, this elegant fig quickly becomes a favorite focal point.

🌞 Light

Prefers bright indirect light. A few hours of gentle morning sun is beneficial. Avoid prolonged harsh afternoon sun which may scorch the leaves.

💧 Watering

Water thoroughly when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. Do not allow the soil to remain soggy. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months.

🕳️ Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A blend containing potting soil, bark, and perlite works very well.

🧪 Fertilizing

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce or discontinue feeding during winter.

🪴 Repotting

Repot every 1 to 2 years, or when roots begin circling the pot. Choose a container only slightly larger than the current one to prevent overwatering issues.
