Codiaeum variegatum ‘Croton Yellow Mrs. Iceton’

An unusual croton cultivar prized for its colorful, ever changing foliage. Its leathery leaves emerge green before developing golden-yellow speckles, warm pink blushes, and deeper rose tones as they mature. This distinctive cultivar was reportedly hybridized by croton breeder Rudy Bachman and differs from the traditional ‘Mrs. Iceton’ through its softer yellow coloration and uniquely shaped foliage. Native Codiaeum species originate throughout tropical Southeast Asia, northern Australia, and the western Pacific. 

🌞 Light

Provide bright, indirect light or gentle morning sunlight. Adequate light helps maintain its yellow and pink coloration. Protect the leaves from intense midday and afternoon sun, especially when grown indoors or in hot climates.

💧 Watering

Water thoroughly when the upper inch of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist without allowing it to remain saturated. Crotons may drop leaves when allowed to become excessively dry or when exposed to sudden environmental changes.

🕳️ Soil

Use a rich, loose, well-draining potting mixture. Indoor potting soil amended with perlite and fine orchid bark provides a helpful balance of moisture retention, drainage, and root aeration.

🧪 Fertilizing

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce or discontinue fertilizing during the cooler months when growth slows.

🪴 Repotting

Repot during spring when roots begin circling the container or emerging through the drainage holes. Choose a pot one size larger with adequate drainage. Avoid unnecessary repotting because crotons can respond to root disturbance by dropping leaves.
